As an accredited public health department, we're seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Technical Writer to join the Division of Information Technology in Atlanta, G.A.  

The ideal candidate is experienced operating in a highly dynamic environment and can balance the needs of multiple stakeholder groups.  Candidate should have the ability to work with executives, create innovative solutions, and think strategically while maintaining attention to detail.  

 

Job Responsibilities

The Technical Writer is responsible for generating innovative ideas for content while working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The position research products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented and easily understood by a broad audience. Outputs will include a range of documents to be read by both technical and non-technical personnel across all departments. 

Duties include:

 

  • Liaising with department heads and end users to define identify business procedures and establish documentation needs for hardware, software, and support.
  • Analyzing IT project requirements to determine types of documents needed.
  • Collaborating with systems and development staff to collect and interpret technical information.
  • Ensuring final documents are usable and of high quality.
  • Meeting with subject-matter experts to ensure specialized topics are appropriately addressed.
  • Reviewing and/or copying and editing content developed by other members of the team.
  • Researching, evaluating and recommending new documentation tools and methods in support of documentation improvement efforts.
  • Developing technical documentation for OIT including SOP’s and knowledge articles.
  • Planning, designing, researching, writing, and editing a range of documents, including user guides and manuals, technical specifications, training materials, user policies, and proposals, for both print and online media.
  • Editing written documentation of development and other IT staff to create unified and consistent support documents.
  • Communicating, establishing and maintaining documentation standards; providing training where required.
  • Maintaining currency and accuracy of all documentation.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related specialty from an accredited college or university AND Ten years of job specific experience that includes system analysis, design and development, and relationship management.

Preferred Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, OR High school diploma or GED AND 2-5 years’ experience in documenting technical documents, project planning and Business Analyst skills. 
  • A background in technology is desirable. 
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Hands-on technical writing and editing experience, with specific experience in documenting information technology software and systems.
  • Knowledge of information gathering, planning, and organizing methods and principles.
  • Strong understanding of document formatting and presentation techniques.
