Unpaid, Virtual Stakeholder Engagement Internship with Global Markets Office of Strategy and Engagement in the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration 

 

The Office of Strategy and Engagement (OSE) in the Global Markets unit at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration or ITA is seeking unpaid interns on a full or part-time basis. ITA’s mission is to create prosperity by strengthening the international competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting trade and investment, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements. 

 

OSE operates as an internal consultancy/think tank helping Global Market’s senior management make informed decisions, advocate for U.S. companies, and solve organizational problems for more than 1,300 staff across the U.S. and around the world. It facilitates and drives GM’s digital engagement, external marketing and communications, strategic planning and data analysis, stakeholder engagement, customer experience, and business integration.  

 

This internship is with the Stakeholder Engagement team responsible for strategic communications, interagency information and analysis coordination, and developing and executing a strategy for overall stakeholder engagement to achieve organizational goals. OSE is seeking students pursuing degrees including but not limited to international relations, political science, public affairs, marketing and communications, and/or legislative affairs.  

  

Job Duties May Include but are not limited to: 

Researching organizations influential to achieving organizational goals 

Developing communications products based on strategy documents 

Editing products for public use to ensure consistent messaging to key stakeholders 

Developing and updating guidance and internal policies for program unit stakeholder engagement 

Research projects on communications, key stakeholders, new business trends 

Supporting regional units with stakeholder engagement and interagency knowledge sharing 

Networking with current ITA interns through the ITA Intern Network 

Helping to develop presentations and visualizations 

Coordinating meeting arrangements 

  

Ideal applicants should have:  

Excellent oral and written communication skills  

Strong customer service and collaborative skills 

Flexibility to work independently or collaboratively depending on the task or project 

Personal motivation, initiative, and appetite for learning 

Creativity, resourcefulness, and professionalism 

  

Requirements:  Applicants must be U.S. citizens, enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university, and living in the United States. Applicants must be available a minimum of 15 hours per week and have a personal device from which to work.  

 

Location: This internship is virtual. Interns will work from home on a personal device during agreed upon hours. OSE will provide a multi-factor authentication device for secure access to agency systems. Depending on location of intern, occasional in-person meetings may occur.
