Gallery of Art Director's Assistant-WORK STUDY ONLY
Gallery of Art Director’s Assistant: The Gallery of Art Director’s Assistant position is designed for persons with an interest in visual, performing and cultural Arts. Priority will be given to students actively in the UNI Museum Studies certificate program and will be responsible for the following, but not limited to, tasks: perform a wide range of duties related to exhibitions and events; assist with unpacking artwork and preparing pieces for display; lighting the gallery; pack and ship pieces previously on display; assist in the installation and deinstallation of artworks with Gallery Director; patch and paint walls, pedestals, and display cabinets; design and install vinyl; type, edit, print, mount, and cut title cards; assist in organizing catering for events; organize tools and storage areas, give tours and speak to visitors about an artist or specific pieces on display, or answer questions about pieces or upcoming exhibitions or events. The Director’s Assistant may also cover hours as a Gallery Guard as needed.
Gallery Guards are responsible for the following: maintaining the security of the exhibition spaces; answering visitor questions in person and on the phone; notating the attendance of individuals and groups; working in harmony with the rest of the Gallery staff; and occasionally assisting with other duties such as guarding at special events and routine cleaning of the space.
Must have approved WORK STUDY funding.
The applicant must have enrolled in classes at UNI and have approved WORK STUDY funding.
