Architect Intern

Job Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Architect Intern. The candidates will work in all aspects of project development from Schematic Design through Construction Administration. We're looking for enthusiastic, sharp candidates who want to get hands on experience working in New York City.

Role Summary
 You will be engaged in every level of the architectural design process. As such, you learn Department of Buildings permits, codes, CAD standards, detailing, construction supervision and administration, budgeting, contractor bidding, and fundamentals of good spatial design. You also will be in charge of managing the company social media pages (Instagram, Houzz, ect. ) and contribute to marketing and outreach tasks.

Typically, we get many apartments, several lofts, and one or two house projects per year, so you can expect a full range of residential architecture experience which can be applied to any field within Architectural Design 

Qualifications

  • CAD Experience (Required) - We use AutoCAD LT in the office and prefer candidates who are familiar with this software or are willing to learn it quickly.
  • Adobe and Microsoft Software Familiarity (Required) - A decent understanding of Photoshop, Excel, Word, etc. are needed.
  • 3D Modeling (Preferred) - Our standard in office is currently Rhino. Revit, AutoCAD, or other 3d modeling software is also okay, but proficiency is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Related Field (Strongly Preferred)
  • Communication Skills (Required) - You will frequently be communicating to clients and vendors through email, calls, and in person meetings. As such, strong communication skills are a must.
  • Sustainability (Plus) - LEED Certification and/or knowledge of sustainable technologies and practices relating to everything from material sciences and thermal properties is a great plus, as GCA prides itself on sustainable practices.
  • Collaborative Skills (Required) - GCA is a small firm, but still fosters a cooperative environment whether that's through working with co-workers or even contractors and suppliers.
