$39,576 - $77,955 per year

Duties

As a uniformed employee of the National Park Service, the incumbent serves as a front-line park representative of the agency in the Division of Interpretation & Education. The primary purpose of this position is to interpret the powerful story of the Sand Creek Massacre and its resources to convey national significance; connect visitors to personal relevance; facilitate shared learning; support specific learning objectives to meet educator and community needs; inform the public for compliance and safety; support management of natural and cultural resources representative of national heritage; and enhance mutual understanding for individual and social benefit. At this grade level, the position is responsible for applying resourcefulness, judgment, and ingenuity, as well as fully developed interpretive skills, techniques, and tools to resolve diverse program issues and complete a substantial variety of interpretive projects and assignments. Candidates should possess strong, versatile verbal communication and customer service skills.

The incumbent will be in charge of operations at a visitor contact station information desk and bookstore at the park site as well as a visitor & education center information desk and bookstore in town. At both locations they provide current, accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS and other surrounding areas of interest. The incumbent presents detailed and specific formal and informal interpretive programs along with tours on historical, cultural and natural history topics related to the site. The candidate will perform roving interpretation and provide visitors with information on park-related activities and services. The incumbent will oversee with the planning and scheduling of school field trips, public tour groups, and virtual programs.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
