Accounting Analyst

The Accounting Analyst is responsible for completing diverse tasks related to general ledger reconciliation, financial reporting and review, with a focus on Sales, Use, Property and Fuel tax preparation and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and files sales, use, property, and fuel tax returns for multiple states and local jurisdictions.
  • Ensures timely and accurate payment of all tax obligations.
  • Maintains and updates tax rate tables and systems to reflect current rates and regulations and informs departments of any tax changes.
  • Conducts research on sales, use, property, and fuel tax laws, regulations, and rulings.
  • Analyzes the tax implications of various business transactions and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory changes to assess their impact on the company’s tax position.
  • Assists with tax audits, including preparing documentation and responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Conducts internal reviews and audits to ensure compliance with tax laws and identify opportunities for tax savings.
  • Maintains accurate and organized records of all tax filings, payments, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepares and presents detailed tax reports to management, highlighting key issues, compliance status, and potential risks.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance tax compliance and reporting efficiency.
  • Stays updated on industry best practices and technological advancements in tax compliance.
  • Frequently communicates with local and state tax agencies.
  • Reviews tax accruals.
  • Prepares annual reports, retail trade reports and census reports.
  • Processes month end journal entries and reconciles specific general ledger accounts.
  • Reviews, tracks and approves exemption status for customers and vendors.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets.
  • Assists in the preparation of year end audit work papers.
  • Communicates with co-workers, management and clients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Reports for work in a timely and consistent manner when scheduled.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience (include certs or licenses needed):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting and/or 3-5 years of job experience in the related field along with Sales and Use tax experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Must be highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized and have strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards software preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate in English. – IF APPLICABLE.
  • Able and willing to deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
  • Able and willing to work cooperatively with other team members.
