Program Overview 
The American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) supports cancer research, education, and control, emphasizing the outstanding resources of Italy and the United States, recognizing world-class scientific excellence in medicine, and serving economically disadvantaged and medically underserved women in New York City through breast cancer screening, outreach, and education. 
 
The goal of AICF is to improve access to breast cancer screenings in medically underserved neighborhoods. On our Mammogram Bus, we provide mammograms, clinical breast exams, and breast health awareness education to economically disadvantaged and medically underserved women in all five boroughs of New York City. 
 
We are seeking a per diem Community Outreach Worker to conduct community engagement and outreach to potential patients for our Mobile, No-Cost Breast Cancer Screening Program. The community outreach worker will conduct street outreach to enroll eligible patients for breast cancer screening events and perform educational workshops. In addition, the Community Outreach Worker will table health fairs to provide information about the program and to sign-up potential patients for mammograms.
 
Primary responsibilities:
  • Conducting street outreach for program and recruit women for upcoming mammography events (recruiting 3-5 women per hour)
  • Educates women about breast health by conducting educational workshops as needed (at community-based organizations throughout NYC)
  • Tabling at screening events and health fairs
 
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the local community and meeting places for women in your surrounding neighborhoods
  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation as well as strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
  • Desire to serve hard-to-reach/underserved populations
  • Ability to communicate health education messages and resources
  • Ability to travel and work independently in the community
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities is a plus
  • Bilingual preferred 
 
 
This is per diem position, approximately 5-10 hours per month. Compensation is $18 per hour.
