  JOB GOAL:
To provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school and special events in a positive and effective manner
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must have a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger, “S”, and Air Brake endorsements
  3. Must be able to pass a School Bus Drivers Physical examination, per Federal and State Department of Transportation Laws, including substance abuse screening
  4. Must pass the State of Arizona Physical Performance Test for School Bus Drivers
  5. Must have current Level One fingerprint card
  6. Must have an excellent attendance record

 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  187 Days; 9 Months
COMPENSATION:  $18.47 - $21.81
BENEFITS: As per District policy
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and/or Transportation Supervisor
HOURS: 35 hours per week - Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
CLASSIFICATION:  Hourly, Non-exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Observe all traffic laws, safety regulations, and District policies
  2. Comply with all Arizona Minimum Standards for bus drivers
  3. Operate all vehicles in a sale, efficient manner and transport only authorized students and personnel
  4. Communicate with Director, vehicle drivers, and District staff in a professional manner
  5. Drive all routes and/or assignments as designed, on schedule, and discharge passengers only at authorized bus stops
  6. Identify, by name, the majority of students that ride the bus
  7. Maintain discipline on the bus and report student discipline problems to the Director
  8. Cooperate with the Director in basic checkout and emergency procedures
  9. Provide departmental reports as requested
  10. Complete written reports and discuss with Director all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injury situations
  11. Report and request in writing, all necessary vehicle maintenance and repairs
  12. Keep interior of assigned bus in clean condition
  13. Attend mandatory departmental meetings
  14. Know how to operate a mechanical wheelchair lift and be able to secure wheelchairs in the bus is so equipped
  15. Perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections properly
  16. Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to staff and students
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by Directory and/or his/her designee

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally team lift and/or move a student with disabilities.
 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
 
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
