International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator

APEX International Education Partners was established in 2011 to assist U.S. secondary educational institutions with the recruitment and hosting of international students. Our goal is to promote greater diversity in U.S. high schools, facilitate cultural awareness amongst American and international students, and ease the process of living and learning abroad. Through the years, APEX has created a portfolio of private day schools located exclusively in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, California, Rhode Island, a private dormitory in Connecticut, and host families that oversee the well-being, care, safety and education of international students annually. INTERNATIONAL (MANDARIN) RESIDENTIAL LIFE/STUDENT COORDINATOR


 

Apex International Education Partners, LLC is seeking a professional and reliable full-time International (Mandarin) Residential Life/Student Coordinator for our international middle-school and high-school student dormitory located in Derby, Connecticut. Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-4PM. Some evenings and weekends, when needed.


 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The International (Mandarin) Residential Life/Student Coordinator will be responsible for handling student affairs, dormitory/office administrative responsibilities, and ensuring the overall safety, well-being and academic success of our international students living in the dormitory. These responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Plan, organize and execute seamlessly new arrivals & departures of students to/from the dormitory.
  • Ensure dormitory room is ready for new student occupancy.
  • Meet and greet new students. Provide welcome packets and tours for new students.
  • Coordinate new student physical appointments and ensure proper vaccinations are received. Handle and/or submit appropriate paperwork.
  • Assist students in obtaining required school uniform.
  • Assist students in setting up a bank account and/or applying for a credit card.
  • Help coordinate and host Dormitory Student Welcome & Orientation Sessions.
  • Work with Student Ambassadors to help new students fully acclimate to dormitory living.
  • Coordinate student departures and transportation needs. Ensure students are fully packed, rooms are cleaned, and all dormitory property is returned (i.e., key fob).
  • Work closely with transportation team to ensure students' timely arrival and pick up from school/events/activities each day.
  • Work collaboratively with students' school administrators and teachers to address any student academic or behavioral concerns or issues. Meet with school administration and teachers regularly to assess student progress. Keep ongoing communications with Chinese counterparts to keep parents up-to-date as to the student's academic progress. Prepare and file Student Monthly Reports. Attend school functions and events.
  • Collaborate with dormitory nurse to ensure the continuous health and well-being of student residents. Ensure students' attendances at school. Monitor and follow up with students who are absent from school. Schedule and bring students to doctor's appointments, if needed. Provide translations, when needed. Be available to assist in emergency situations, when needed.
  • Maintain, update and keep confidential student records and files, including Dormitory Student Master List, Room Assignments, Nightly Check-In List, and Student Health Records.
  • Work with students and their school's administration in planning, participating and meeting Community Service Hour requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the afternoon/evening Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) to seamlessly transfer RLC responsibilities and follow-up from day-time to night-time.
  • Work with Live-In Residential Assistants (RAs) and College Mentors to fully provide the mentoring, support, and guidance resident students need to achieve academic success and cultural assimilation.
  • Assist RLC counterparts and Live-In RAs in responding to and monitoring student behavior that complies with dormitory policies. Address and resolve any student issues.
  • Attend required weekly staff meetings. Help coordinate, attend and host monthly Dormitory Student meetings. Coordinate group WeChat meetings with students.
  • Participate in required medical, safety and other trainings/drills.
  • Work collaboratively with RLC counterparts and Live-In RAs to create and implement an exciting and fun-filled monthly events/activities schedule for students.
  • Coordinate and manage student school calendars, student healthcare visits, student birthdays, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Coordinators and Residential Staff (RAs, Kitchen, Facilities, Transportation) in meeting dormitory student needs and resolving student issues.
  • Work on assigned projects, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required. Advanced degree (or in the process of getting an Advanced Degree) in Education or related discipline preferred.

Experience in education, caring for high school aged children, and/or prior experience as a senior Resident Advisor in a dormitory setting is desirable.

Demonstrate excellent decision-making skills, strong leadership qualities, and possess sensitivity for the welfare of their international middle school and high school student residents.

Must be detailed-oriented and possess excellent time management and project management skills. Be organized, efficient and capable of taking on the administrative responsibilities of the role. Must be highly proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and update data/reports accurately and timely.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are needed. Must be able to effectively communicate and problem-solve with students, staff and school administration to successfully resolve issues. Possess an encouraging spirit and a customer-service focus. Be cooperative with staff and act as a primary advocate and mentor for dormitory students.

Fluency in English and Mandarin are required.

Staff must undergo and pass a national criminal and sex offender background and driving record check. Valid CT Driver's license needed by the beginning of the academic year.


 

COMPENSATION Full-Time. Salaried, Exempt - $50,000-$55,000/year, Health Benefits (after 60 Days of service) + Paid Time Off (PTO) + 401K (after 1 year of service).


 

JOB TYPE Full-Time, Monday-Friday 7:30AM-4PM. Some evenings/weekends, when needed.
