Keweenaw National Historical Park Media Intern

 

 

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with Keweenaw National Historical Park are seeking two interns who will work closely with the park’s visual information specialist and interpretation & education team on content and updates to the park’s website, NPS app content, and park’s social media. This media intern could gain skills in writing, editing, photography, video production, NPS website content management and more!  Additionally, the selected individual will have the opportunity to learn about visitor services and programing working with our front-line ranger staff and volunteers in the visitor center, giving pop-up programs, and helping with community events! 

 

 

Position Responsibilities will include:

·        Creates digital resources using media equipment such as cameras and recorders, as well as design software and online web applications.

·        Integrates Park interpretive themes into the interpretive aspects of the online media content regarding the history of the region and the story of the Keweenaw.

·        Learn to work in the NPS.gov content management system (CMS) and assist with implementing park priorities through digital projects (e.g., Director’s priorities, servicewide messaging, programmatic initiatives, etc.). 

·        Collaborate internally and with external partners, such as Keweenaw Heritage Sites, to message projects that connect various audiences to the park and its mission. Tangible products may include, webpages, NPS app content, social media posts, etc.

·        Provide customer service, coordination, and support for park programs and partners

·        Assist in staffing park’s visitor center

·        Assist with creating and delivering interpretive programs for a variety of audiences.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·        Ability to communicate and collaborate in a variety of settings.

·        Adaptability and capacity to work in a fluid environment.

·        Strong problem-solving and decision making abilities.

·        Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

·        May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

·        Applicants must pass a criminal background for both DOI and AmeriCorps eligibility.

·        Must be 18 years or older.

·        Must be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.

·        Must have a valid drivers license and be insurable by Conservation Legacy (over 21 years old and drivers license for at least three years).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs are a plus but not required.

·        Experience with online communications and editing.

·        Familiar with social media platforms and writing for diverse audiences.

·        Bachelor’s degree.
