Job Description

 

The Dean Of Early College and Student Engagement plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and initiatives to enhance the quality and effectiveness of early college programs such as Dual Enrollment, Collegiate High Schools, civic literacy, and College Success programming. The Dean will establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with K-12 school districts, educational agencies, community organizations, and industry partners to expand access to higher education and promoting college readiness to early college initiatives. The Dean is responsible for compliance with all accreditations for state and federal requirements with regards to dual enrollment and civic literacy requirements. The Dean assists in coordination of admissions, retention, and student services activities for dual enrollment students and promotes civic engagement, awareness, and education within the college and broader community in partnership with local school systems.

 

The position reports to the Provost of Academic Affairs and Workforce Education. The Dean will support the provost in effective planning and vision, comprehensive leadership, program review, budget oversight, data analysis, institutional coordination, supervision, and oversight of all affairs and activities for dual enrollment, Collegiate high schools, civic literacy, and College Success.

Essential Functions and Duties

 

Academic Success

 

• Facilitate the procurement of adjuncts instructors for dual enrollment programs and facilitate the human resources process with the College's HR department.

• Monitor high school students who will be graduating at the end of their senior year with an associate degree to facilitate graduation and offer new dual enrollment courses and programs.

• Promote close relationship between college faculty and high school teachers including curricula articulation for a seamless transition from high school to college.

• Address concern and course offerings to school counselors and assistant principal to answer questions, make recommendation and advise when needed.

• Recommend dual enrollment and college access catalog changes, deletions, and additions.

• Assist the Academic Affairs and Workforce Education departments with dual enrollment faculty, mentoring of highs school site personnel and relaying of textbook information to Polk County Public Schools.

• Collaborate with Student Services in the organization of the annual guidance of counselor/advisor, administrator and teacher meeting between Polk County Public Schools and the advisors from the College in coordination with the face-to-face registration events for student enrolled in classes taught on high school sites.

• Assist various departments throughout the College with the planning and implementation of special events, to include but not limited to orientations, completion ceremonies, campus tours, annual dual enrollment training and press releases.

• Serve on standing committees in support of the College's mission, vision, goals, and core values and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Accreditation and Academic Services

 

• Track and monitor the dual enrollment presence in high school courses and on the College website, including presentation and all dual enrollment programs plans and parent information.

• Coordinate with the Director of Dual Enrollment to review and revise the annual K-16 articulation agreements with the Polk County Public Schools, Florida Virtual School, private schools, and home schools.

• Monitor SACSCOC requirements pertaining to substantive change requests and reviews for student enrollments and performance.

• Update the dual enrollment application to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and maintain dual enrollment reporting requirements.

• Maintain Institutional Effectiveness/Institutional Research data and tracking for dual enrollment programs.

• Ensure all new dual enrollment courses and programs align with accreditation standards.

• Assist in preparation of appropriate prospectives and site evaluation reports for approval and maintain all data for dual enrollment sites to ensure faculty credentials in compliance with the accreditation standards.

• Facilitate course alignment between the college and participating high school adhere to state, federal, and college procedures, guidelines, initiatives, and directives to ensure compliance with all regulations involving dual enrollment.

• Collaborate with Institutional Research to ensure all state and federal reporting is accurate and completed on time.

• Analyze and provide recommendations regarding dual enrollment, student enrollment, retention, and completion data.

 

Dual Enrollment

 

• Conduct site visits to area schools in Polk County twice annually and develop recruiting information brochures to promote dual enrollment.

• Coordinate all aspects of the dual enrollment program with area high school students, district personnel and appropriate College personnel.

• Manage operations and work directly with local public schools, private middle/high schools, and homeschooled families to ensure excellence in service through responsive communication regarding deadlines, policies/procedures to support students seeking opportunities through 1007.271 and 1007.273.

• Support the development of annual articulation agreements and other contracts required in the delivery of dual enrollment program.

• Develop and manage advising, co-curricular, and operational initiatives for the early college programming, coordinating with high school guidance offices to ensure high school graduation maximize progress toward the associate degree, and transfer to a baccalaureate program.

• Evaluate dual enrollment students' needs for industry certifications and collaborate with academic deans overseeing programs and courses that lead toward these industry certifications to support embedding training and testing into the curriculum.

• Identify new and innovative means by which the college can enhance dual enrollment, programming, orientations, and registration and provide a seamless process for students to increase student success.

• Liaise with other college divisions to schedule orientations, investigate registration issues, update dual enrollment guides, and submit required dual enrollment reports.

• Collaborate with the provost in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities to lead faculty, adjunct, and school personnel for professional development workshops, conferences, seminars, and other in-service training activities related to dual enrollment.

• Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating the overall requirements and effectiveness of the dual enrollment program and make recommendations for improvement.

• Evaluate opportunities for new early college and dual enrollment programs and support the development and implementation of these plans.

• Expand community partnerships that enhance instructional experiences.

• Foster partnerships with school districts and monitor civic literacy initiatives, including student performance in the Florida Civic Literacy Exam.

• Ensure compliance with state civic literacy requirements by developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures related to civic literacy education and assessment.

• Monitor student performance on civic literacy assessments and postsecondary coursework and work collaboratively with faculty members to enhance student performance along with testing centers to identify areas of improvement.

• Identify opportunities for students to access out-of-classroom resources such as practice tests, tutoring services, boot camps, study guides, and other resources to ensure students are prepared to pass an approved civic literacy assessment.

 

Required Skills:

 

• Knowledge of outreach methods, recruitment strategies, school relations, and student services.

• Knowledge of dual enrollment admissions policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of student and academic programs, policies, and procedures.

• Knowledge of state reporting and accreditation standards and requirements.

• Skilled in communicating with a variety of contacts of considerable importance within and outside of the college in writing and orally, including public speaking.

• Skilled at handling multiple projects and carrying out required project details.

 

Working Conditions/Additional Information

 

• This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Lakeland campus, but will travel to other locations as necessary. (Remote/hybrid options are not available.)

• Weekend and evening work may be required.

• Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).

• Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses, centers, and community locations. Possession of a valid Florida’s Driver’s License is required (or must be eligible to obtain a Florida’s license within 30 days).

• This position will require the ability to lift at least 20 lbs.

 

Salary and Benefits Information

 

• This position is a level P18. Please see below for specific salary range.

Required Education:

 

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Education or relevant program is required.

 

Preferred Education:

 

Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.

 

Required Experience:

 

A minimum of three years of full-time management experience in an educational environment at a Director or Department Chair level or higher is required.

 

Preferred Experience

 

• Five years of full-time experience in an educational setting.

• Background in K-12 and community college dual enrollment is preferred.

• Three years full time teaching experience is preferred.
