Junior College Counselor and Tutor Coordinator

An admissions consulting and tutoring company is looking for a new team member to assist its lead counselors, provide client support, and help with hiring tutors. The ideal candidate loves education and empowering others, is extremely organized and detail-oriented, and demonstrates unwavering integrity and strong commitment.

Responsibilities 

We are a small business and tight-knit team looking for someone who can provide support in a variety of areas as needed:

College Admissions Support

  • Take notes during our counselor-client meetings and provide session summaries to clients
  • Conduct research on and become familiar with summer programs, extracurricular opportunities, and contest/publications and support students throughout the application/submission process
  • Oversee the editorial process for our monthly newsletter to 5,000+ subscribers
  • Review written content in our proprietary College Counseling Guide to ensure it is up to date
  • Edit and provide feedback on student application materials
  • Opportunity to work one-on-one with your own students based on experience/interest

Tutor Coordination/Customer Support

  • Help strategize tutor-student pairings for both Arete and its sister company The Classroom Door (TCD)
  • Create job postings, review tutor applications, and schedule/conduct interviews with prospective tutors for Arete and TCD
  • Monitor the TCD platform’s activities and respond to student inquiries to ensure a smooth client experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a top four-year institution
  • Experience providing editorial support/tutoring writing; extraordinary grammar, writing, and editing skills
  • Interest in high school counseling and/or college admissions field is a plus
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced environment and tackle multiple tasks diligently and independently
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with accountability to deadlines
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed
  • Ability to handle confidential information and uphold high standards of integrity and ethical conduct
  • Team player willing to wear many hats
  • Proficiency with Google Docs

Location

  • Option to work in our New York-based office, remotely, or create a hybrid schedule

Start Date/Timeframe

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Schedule: full-time, 10 am-6 pm ET
  • Time commitment: We dedicate a lot of time to training you at the beginning and are a small team, so we are looking for someone who can make a long-term commitment with us (at least two years, but many of our team members have been with us for close to a decade, and there is a lot of room to stay and continue to grow within the company in the areas of the business that most interest you)

Compensation

  • $23-30/hour
