Invent@NMU

Invent@NMU brings clients' concepts to market, which may range from an invention of a physical product or app to a new business development project. Clients may be students (any school or age), NMU faculty or staff, local residents or from any community - anyone with an idea is welcome. NMU students can get involved as inventors, entrepreneurs and/or employees.

Job Duties: 

The Client Onboarding Guide fields inquiries, conducts Quick Explores, and guides clients through the Onboarding phase of our process. The position takes the lead role during the initial phase of the program with research, communication, planning, and coordination, requiring a balance of anticipating the next steps while managing details along the way. As projects advance to a higher level, the position has the potential to grow with the client, continuing to serve as the main point of contact.

Key responsibilities include managing calendars and appointments, researching product/business ideas, providing effective and consistent customer service, maintaining accurate records, creating professional presentations, data entry, and delivering and effectively communicating with the staff team and client to meet expectations. In addition, fill in as needed in various functions to assist the staff team, including participating in special events, public speaking, and promoting the Invent@NMU program. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Reliable student leader with confidence, effective leadership abilities, and critical thinking skills.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills are required, along with the willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and soft skills are essential, along with the ability to work well in team-oriented and self-directed environments.
  • Attention to detail, initiative, creativity, flexibility, and proactive thinking is essential to drive the program’s innovative culture.
  • Must be knowledgeable in or have the ability to learn a variety of software platforms, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite for practical application.
  • Must have the ability to perform consistently while managing multiple projects with an element of uncertainty.
  • Students who express initiative and leadership skills will excel in this role.
  • Customer Service and Business experience are a plus, but not required.
