Sales Engineer Trainee
The Warshauer Sales Engineer Trainee Co-Op position is a flexible program that fits the individual student’s academic calendar. Our programs start and end times are flexible based upon student’s needs. During this 12-month program, you will be working directly under the Executive Vice President of Warshauer. The Sales Engineer Trainee (SET) will be exposed to all aspects of Electrical Wholesaling and our wide variety of electrical/mechanical products.
The SET will begin with a short stint in one of our five locations learning the basics of shipping, receiving and stock management in a warehouse setting. They will then move to one of our supply counters where our customers come to get supplies every day. Each SET will work directly with our clients during this time and be exposed to our full product catalog, all while learning about the practical field applications for these products. In addition to overall product knowledge, the SET will gain valuable knowledge and experience on the entire sales process, including the fundamental skills to build client relationships.
After this initial phase is completed, each SET will then be exposed to each of our specialty groups on a “tour” of each division. Each SET will spend time in our Commercial Switchgear Department, Commercial Lighting, Energy Solutions, Generator Sales & Service as well as our Energy Audit Division. Here they will be exposed to larger projects from the blue-print planning stages, all the way through preparing a bill of material, offering design/build assistance, and hopefully seeing the project to final completion.
They will be exposed to power distribution (Switchgear Department); Lighting Layout/Design (Commercial Lighting); Solar Panels, Racks, Inverters (Energy Solutions); the basics of emergency power through stand-by generator systems and the basics of generator design, start-up, maintenance and service (Generator Group); as well as the latest technologies in energy efficient lighting, lighting design, lighting control, and state/federal rebate programs (Energy Audit Division).
The SET will be required to complete 3 assigned online training courses each week and provide a weekly report to management on the knowledge gained during the training, as well any highlights of the week.
After each specific training is completed, the SET will do a (1) hour presentation to the President and Executive Vice President giving a detailed summary on the time spent with each department. Each presentation will be graded on organization, content, visual aids, delivery, discussion, conclusion, and a Q&A session.
