Elections Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to coordinate county elections. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Maintains databases. Trains poll workers. Provides support to other government agencies. Receives and reviews campaign finance and filing documents. Receives and reviews candidate filing documents to appear on ballots. Oversees records retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages federal, state, and County elections.
  • Maintains voter registration databases.
  • Staff, trains, and supervises poll workers and County election night workers.
  • Develops and maintains election training materials for election officials and precinct workers; conducts election worker recertification training. 
  • Programs the ballot design/layout and voting equipment for the County, including voter assistance terminals for those who require special accommodations. 
  • Provides technical election support to local city and township clerks.
  • Record minutes for the County Board of Canvassers and County Elections Commission; prepare final canvassing documents. 
  • Receives and reviews campaign finance and filing documents; collects filing fees; investigates election and campaign finance violations. 
  • Invoice the state, city, township, or learning institution for the permittable election costs to be recovered by the state. 
  • Monitors vacancies, appointments, and partial terms for County, township, city, village, school, and library offices. 
  • Ensures proper and compliant retention, maintenance, and storage of election-related records. 
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Politics, Social Science, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Commissioned by the State of Michigan as a Notary Public.
  • Certified Election Official.
