Travel and Relocation Unit Chief

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities. The Financial Management Division (FMD) is responsible for the preparation, analysis and management of the Department’s budget, maintenance of accounting records and financial data, and acts as the liaison with the Department of Finance (DOF), Legislative Analyst’s Office, Legislative Budget staff, and the federal government on budget and fiscal matters affecting the Department.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by coordinating, evaluating, and overseeing the accounting operations and activities of the Travel Unit. The Accounting Administrator (AA) I, Supervisor is responsible for providing accounting and budget support to CDPH for all travel related processes and Office Revolving Fund (ORF) to maintain accurate financial reporting. Monitors staff processing travel and ORF related duties and provides training, technical direction, and assistance. Monitors and interprets directives from control agencies as they relate to travel and relocation and prepares Administration Memos and other resources to inform CDPH staff of new policies and procedures. Analyzes and monitors error files and outstanding ORF reports to ensure the accuracy and timely clearing of FI$Cal errors and outstanding balances and reports to the AA II on the status of the unit and the status of aged items. Provides technical direction and assistance to a wide range of CDPH staff and control agencies in resolution of travel and relocation issues. Develops, research, and provide trainings for CDPH staff. Provides management reports, including the individual transactions associated with specific cost centers. Evaluates staff performance, identifies training needs, and develops training plans to assist in improved performance, including on-the-job training. Completes staff probation reports and Individual Development Plans (IDP). Evaluates equipment, production and other needed items for improved staff performance, and provide findings to the AA II, Supervisor. Assists in the development of process improvements and updating of desk procedures for the Travel Unit. Interviews and hires for vacant positions, approves FI$Cal voucher related to travel and ORF, and performs other AA I, Supervisor duties as needed.

  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
