Volunteer Producer for Audio Magazine

Job Overview: bUneke (be unique) Magazine is a dynamic, global product, hosted as a podcast downloaded on more than forty platforms. We seek a Volunteer Host/Voice Actor/Producer who will create professional mp3 audio files from existing digital magazines. As a volunteer host, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the podcast’s content and fostering meaningful connections with our audience. As a voice actor, you will become the Voice of bUneke, and as the Audio Magazine Producer, you will have freedom to create the issues according to your own vision, which can include music and sound effects, as well as other voices. You can invite your friends to read. If you’ve ever wanted to record audio books, this can be your gateway. If you’re passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and making a positive impact, we want you on our team!

Responsibilities:

  1. Content Development: Collaborate with bUneke Magazine’s Editor in Chief to develop compelling episodes of bUneke Magazine Audio, based on previously published digital products that are also printed on demand.
  2. Read and Record: Under the editor’s guidance, choose which issue(s) you will record and determine your due date for delivery of the mp3 files.
  3. Determine how Your Audio Magazine will Sound and Feel  to your Audience: If you choose to have others read/record articles and stories that you will then edit into one file, be sure they are familiar with the best practices to make a clear recording. Your contact(s) at bUneke are always eager to help you.
  4. Be Prepared to Fill In: If your guest voices cannot produce high quality clips, be prepared to read their assignments yourself.
  5. Scripting and Planning: Assist the editor in scripting audio issues, preparing audio ads and coordinating with the editor to ensure each audio issue is well-prepared and executed seamlessly.
  6. Voice Acting vs. Reading: Voice Actors present content with authenticity, enthusiasm, and professionalism, utilizing vocal techniques and storytelling skills to captivate listeners and convey the podcast’s message effectively while readers often read without adding an entertaining value.
  7. Audience Engagement: Foster a sense of community and connection with listeners through social media engagement, and editor/listener feedback.
  8. Audio Editing: Possess the skills and software to seamlessly connect single files from other Voice Actors if you do not plan to read the entire magazine in one session. Be prepared to add a public-domain musical soundtrack, if this fits your vision.

Requirements:

  1. Passion for Storytelling: Genuine enthusiasm for sharing stories, ideas, and experiences that inspire, educate, and empower others.
  2. Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences, guests, and team members.
  3. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different topics, stories, ads, and reviews while maintaining authenticity and professionalism.
  4. Time Management: Know how long it takes you to read different length magazines so you can manage your time efficiently. Also, if you choose to use different voices, know how long it will take to edit all the clips together so you can manage adhere to due dates and expectations. 
  5. Tech-Savvy: Basic knowledge of audio recording software, and editing tools is preferred. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies as needed. Ability to download or install audio software, if required.
  6. Reliability: Commitment to meeting due dates, coordinate recording sessions, and other responsibilities as agreed upon with the audio team.
  7. Work as Producer: You will be the producer of the audio magazines. Visit bUneke.org and see which magazine issues already have audio versions. Listen to some of them for ideas, unless you already have some experience or your own vision. It will be your responsibility to coordinate and communicate with the editor,  mary@buneke.org, about any delays or problems. 
    1. You may choose to produce only one issue or you may choose to be responsible for the full project and produce the remainder of our audio magazine issues. You must discuss your thoughts on this and if you realize you cannot fulfill your obligation, you are expected to let the editor know prior to your due date.

Education and Experience:

  • Enthusiasm, exuberance, dedication, and a genuine interest in audio production, voice acting, audio books, and learning about philanthropists and charities are valued over formal qualifications.
  • Prior experience in hosting, interviewing, public speaking, or content creation is a plus, but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a volunteer position with flexible hours.
  • Remote work is performed from your school or home computer.

bUneke Audio Magazine is hosted on bUneke.org and bUneke Radio, which has 14 distinctive shows in archives that are still downloaded in more than 100 countries, with shows producing new content each week. 

If you enjoy volunteering as the host of your own show, it’s yours for a semester or as long as you want it. One of our podcast hosts landed a paying gig working for NPR, as a result of his efforts as a bUneke volunteer.

We are flexible, with a goal to produce two new Audio Magazines each semester until every digital issue has its audio counterpart.

bUneke is a 501c3, educational charity that has helped hundreds of other charities be seen and heard since 2018 and has given a voice to charities, podcasters, writers, and voice actors around the world.
