This position reports to the Director of Talent and is a non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, requiring 40 hours a week.  Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo fleet insurance carrier. The Toledo Zoo is a drug and alcohol free workplace and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. 

Essential Job Functions *Duties will include, but are not limited to the following*

  • Collaborates with the Director of Talent and the recruitment team in the strategic development of the Zoo’s recruiting program and assists with the coordination of diversity programming, internal hiring events, and special events as needed.
  • Identifies department needs and recruits through advertisements, job fairs, temporary employment agencies, college programs, web site maintenance and other creative methods. 
  • Performs full cycle recruiting efforts for the Zoo from application to onboarding and orientations for part time and full time applicants.
  • Cultivates a talent pipeline for various positions based on business need. Actively sources candidates from target sources as required. 
  • Utilizes appropriate technology to manage applicant flow, interviews, hires, transfers, and terminations. 
  • Partner with local businesses and Zoo staff to plan, implement and attend part-time and seasonal employee events, including community partner programming i.e., trade out program. Will have some budget related responsibilities. 
  • Review, prepare, analyze and submit various reports and records including applications and resumes, ACA reporting, SOPS, I9 maintenance, billing invoices, purchase orders, and general office correspondence. 
  • Keeps abreast of current employment laws and practices.  Provides assistance in interviewing part or full time staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, or related field, knowledge of hiring legalities and 3+ years of recruiting experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to identify and hire top talent, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of HR practices. Experience collaborating in a team-oriented environment, resourcefulness, and ability to take initiative.
