The Climate Initiatives, Renewables and Administration Branch is seeking a manager (SSM I) to expand its service to the people and management of the Energy Division in the area of Personnel and Administration. This will involve creating a roadmap of a prioritized path to improving personnel functions within Energy Division to guide hiring and promotional processes as well as support diversity, equity and inclusion. The SSM I will focus on needed foundations to support performance management, hiring and promotional processes and succession planning. The SSM I will support their direct reports and broader team to help them maximize their impact and career potential. For the team within the section the SSM I will provide leadership coaching, as well as assess and recommend training and development experiences for each function. The SSM I will have responsibility to lead internal HR processes, recruitment, internships and fellowships, and associated budget and record-keeping tasks. Broader training activities may also be conducted by this section. This position requires a proactive, self-motivated professional ready to face challenges with agility and resilience.
Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Staff Services Manager I oversee and supervises the Personnel and Administration section staff in the Energy Division. The incumbent advises, resolves problems and coordinates with division management and staff at all levels to ensure that the division’s needs are met with respect to personnel and administration for the professional staff in the division. Incumbent has overall responsibility for monitoring and prioritizing the workflow of the section staff to ensure a high degree of product and service quality and timely deliverables.
The Staff Services Manager I prioritizes and monitors the work of the section staff to ensure that the division support systems are meeting all goals and objectives as determined by Energy Division Senior Management, and that management and professional staff are supported in hiring, recruiting, retention and administrative tasks. Provides training and development opportunities for section staff consistent with the employee’s classification, training needs and development goals. Attends agency-wide meetings and events to keep apprised of administrative policies, attends monthly management meetings as a participant and to update division management on administrative issues, including personnel and office oversight issues.
The Staff Services Manager I should have a passion for solving problems while being resourceful as well as excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills. In addition, the ability to be discrete as the position requires handling of sensitive personnel matter, such as but not limited to, Personally Identifiable Information.

For most Energy Division positions, staff can opt to work largely from home or in an approved alternate work location or work primarily or entirely in a CPUC office.
