Project Summary
The Program Intern will be expected to:
- Develop two (2) lesson or program plans to be used at Split Rock Lighthouse.
- Complete a research project on a topic that is of interest to the intern, contributes to Split Rock’s programming, and creates a tangible end product such as an outline, book, multimedia presentation, etc.

Responsibilities
- Research
- Regular progress reports to Program Manager
- Develop and deliver programs that serve diverse audiences
- Interact/engage with the public using a variety of interpretive techniques
- Help identify future areas of growth in public programming
- Support daily operations of the historic site
- Customer service
Qualifications
- Ability to travel to Split Rock Lighthouse for assigned shifts
- Willingness to travel to MNHS History Center for intern seminars. State vehicle carpool may be an option, or personal vehicle reimbursement will be available.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to research, write, and communicate findings clearly and accurately
- Familiarity with museum education and/or interpretation
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to listen to the public and be responsive to inquiries and comments
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to work weekends
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Computer skills, especially familiarity with Google suite
- Knowledge of Split Rock Lighthouse, its history, and Minnesota’s North Shore
Knowledge Intern is Expected to Gain
- Program development & implementation
- Familiarity with interpretive techniques, public communication, and current interpretive best practices
- Understanding of the daily operations of an historic site & tourist destination
- Research skills
