Artistic Operations & Lyric Unlimited Intern

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Lyric Unlimited and Artistic Operations 

TERM: Fall 2024-Spring 2025

HOURS: 25-30 hours per week (In-Office)

The Artistic Operations & Lyric Unlimited Intern at Lyric Opera of Chicago offers a unique opportunity for prospective artistic administrators to gain experience in artistic operations and learning and civic engagement divisions. This intern will be responsible for drafting and documenting artistic operations strategy, workflow, strategic plans, and procedures. This intern will also assist in all Lyric Unlimited programming for the 2024/25 season. 


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Artistic Operations

  • Support Chief Artistic Administration Office (CAAO) and VP of Artistic Planning in administrative functions as it pertains to travel research projects, creating and distributing season Lookbooks, maintaining new works tracking log and general administrative support.
  • Collaborate with Company Management, Music Administration, Artistic Planning on various projects as it pertains to the mainstage season, chorus, orchestra and Lyric Unlimited auditions and general artist services.

Lyric Unlimited-Learning & Civic Engagement 

  • Support Learning Programs Manager with Opera in the Neighborhoods (OIN) and Free Dress Rehearsal Bus Scholarship management:
    • Liaise with schools and bus companies to fulfill school bus requests through the Bus Scholarship Fund.
    • Track, receive, manage and correspond to all school and teacher communications and ticket reservations for Opera in the Neighborhoods and Dress Rehearsals.
    • Track and log school information, scholarship utilization, and requests as specific to Opera in the Neighborhoods, Dress Rehearsals, Explore Opera, High School Residencies, and Vocal Partnerships.
    • Fulfill reservations, determine qualifications for Bus and communicate performance start and end times with Bus company.
    • Liaise with teachers to ensure appropriate bus pick-up and drop-off, troubleshoot and respond when issues arise.
  • Support Director of Civic Engagement with administrative functions,- programming research, scheduling and on-site event support.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in the arts preferred.
  • Artistic interest and experience with a music and/or theater background preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to take direction and multitask.
  • Highly motivated with a desire to learn.
  • Computer literacy is required with an emphasis on Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

WORK CONDITIONS: 

  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer and to handle other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally oversee evening or weekend functions, deployments, or performances.
  • Ability to navigate filing systems up to 6’ in height.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Fast-paced and demanding environment.

 

COMPENSATION:

Job Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt Intern

Hourly Rate: $16.20 + Weekly $30 Travel Stipend
