THE REWARDS OF A NAVY NURSE CORPS OFFICER

 

Taking care of others is what you do. You have worked long and hard to get where you are. Now, think about taking care of yourself. With the Navy’s Nurse Candidate Program (NCP) you can concentrate on being the best nurse possible and look forward to a great career as an officer in the United States Navy.

 

It’s simple. Acceptance in NCP earns a $20,000* bonus. Then, you get $1,000* stipend per month while you finish school.* When you complete your degree you will be commissioned as a Nurse Corps Officer in the U.S. Navy.

An accession bonus of $20,000 for those who enter in the third year of their nursing degree program, or an accession bonus of $16,000 for those who enter in the fourth year of their nursing degree program.

 

OBLIGATION:

• You’ll be enlisted into the Navy Reserve until after you graduate. After graduation and passing the NCLEX, you will be commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps.

 

• If you enter the program during your fourth year of the Nursing Program, you will agree to serve on active duty for four years.

 

• If you enter the program during your third year - or receive > 12 months of stipend of the Nursing Program, you will agree to serve on active duty for five years.

 

• Immediately upon graduation you must sit for and pass the NCLEX exam. After passing, you will be commissioned into the Navy Nurse Corps.

TO QUALIFY:

• Be enrolled full-time or accepted into a Nursing Program that confers a Baccalaureate Degree accredited by ACEN or CCNE.

 

• Completed the second year of Baccalaureate Program in Nursing and have more than six months of academic work before graduation.

 

• Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. 

 

Nurse Candidate Students will complete college as a full-time student attending all normal school sessions (2 semesters or 3 quarters).

 

Academic progress is renewed at the end of each term. Official transcripts must be sent to the Head of Student Programs of the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in Bethesda, MD.
