POSITION: Connection Ambassador 

 

UNIT: Student and Family Connections IU Indianapolis

 

SUMMARY: Student and Family Connections (SFC) is offering a leadership development opportunity for undergraduate/graduate students to support other students, parents, families, and supporters who are navigating transition to and through IU Indianapolis. The Ambassadors position is an opportunity to help individuals learn more about campus resources, getting connected, and tips on how to become an engaged member of the IU Indianapolis community. This role assists student organization’s on IU Indianapolis’s campus with event processing and re-registration. The Ambassador role will serve as a representative for SFC and the Division of Student Affairs by specifically supporting student organizations, summer Orientation initiatives, Bridge Week programming, Parent and Family programming, and Weeks of Welcome. The position will also support other unit specific programming needs. 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Enrolled IU Indianapolis undergraduate/graduate student
  • In good standing academically and judicially with the university
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA

 

AMBASSADORS SHOULD:

  • Possess strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • Have the ability to work well with others, individually and in small groups.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Be able to observe, adapt, and respond to needs within office program implementation. 
  • Be involved in student life at IU Indianapolis. (This may include clubs/organizations, campus leadership positions, athletics, community service, etc.)
  • Be able to demonstrate and articulate the benefits of being involved on-campus and introduce students to campus resources to help them succeed.
  • Possess knowledge and demonstrate enthusiasm for the IUI campus and community.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of IUI student organization operations and the event planning process.
  • Have prior experience planning programs and/or events.
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork experience.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Express the benefits and importance of being involved on-campus to students and families.
  • Assist with management of student organization mail, student activities email, and phone calls to the CUBE. 
  • Share information and knowledge about campus resources and assist in the development, review, and publication of resources for student organizations.
  • Complete the daily opening and closing procedures for the CUBE, including cleaning, re-setting seating layout, and monitoring guests to address needs and foster a welcoming environment for all.
  • Facilitate department training sessions by distributing promotional items, setting-up snack services, and scanning participants’ Crimson Cards.
  • Process requests for flyers and other promotional activities while adhering to IU Indianapolis brand identity and strategy.
  • Represent SFC and/or the Division of Student Affairs to students and families by tabling or giving presentations at various campus events.
  • Distribute and scan liability waivers for student organization events.
  • Monitor the conference room reservation, turnover, and maintenance processes.
  • Oversee the kitchenette area, including cleaning, fridge organization, and restocking supplies.
  • Assist staff in locker rental procedures, including distributing and collecting intake forms and keys.
  • Conduct informal consultations as needed with prospective new student organization leaders and/or students who need guidance on how to get involved on campus.
  • Complete other duties as assigned. 

 

COMPENSATION: 

  • $11.00 per hour
