AmeriCorps Legends Fellows
This AmeriCorps and Service Year Alliance initiative at Legends Charter School in Lanham, Maryland, is crucial in supporting our students. Our Fellows work alongside teachers in classrooms and with the entire school community to ensure our students receive the best education possible. As a First Year Legends Fellow AmeriCorps member, their service would focus on coaching and mentoring elementary and middle school students on the quest to become academic warriors. They help students succeed academically, improve attendance, develop social-emotional skills, and foster positive behaviors. This unique near-peer support system is crucial for students to see themselves in higher spaces!

Our positions are full-time, and we provide comprehensive training to support their success. Another perk is that fellows receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, available to AmeriCorps members after their service term. This award can be used to repay qualified student loans, cover current educational expenses, or certification courses, making it a valuable resource for those pursuing higher education and trade jobs. The award amount is equivalent to the maximum value of the Pell Grant for the fiscal year in which the service term is approved, and it can vary based on the length of service completed.
