McIntyre Library: OER Digital Learning Librarian

Position: We seek an innovative and dynamic colleague for a tenure-track library faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. This position provides leadership for library digital learning and for library initiatives to advance affordable and open educational resources (OER) awareness and use across campus. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in OER professional development to develop expertise in this area. Working in a team-based environment, the OER and Digital Learning Librarian identifies instructional needs that can be addressed with digital tools. This position has primary responsibility for creating interactive online tutorials, course modules, and digital learning objects, advancing library and campus information literacy efforts. The OER and Digital Learning Librarian plays a pivotal role in advancing access to and adoption of affordable and open educational resources on campus. This faculty position delivers information literacy instruction to students, faculty, staff, and community members and provides research expertise through consultation in various formats. This position reports to the director of libraries.

This librarian will be part of a team that delivers information literacy instruction, research expertise, and excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and the ability to thrive in a changing and collaborative environment. Commitment to teaching excellence and to the University's equity, diversity, and inclusivity goals are essential. Starting salary is $56,000. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with an anticipated start date in September 2024. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited library and information science program. Degree must be completed by anticipated start date. New professionals are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of experience with and interest in using a range of digital technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training or experience in information literacy instruction and/or active learning strategies.
  • Experience providing public services in a library setting.
  • Recent academic coursework or experience relevant to instructional design.

Major areas of responsibility

  • Promotes campus awareness and adoption of Open and/or Affordable Educational Resources and serves on the campus Affordable Educational Resources committee.
  • Guides creation and integration of Open/Affordable Educational Resources in departments and courses.
  • Coordinates, oversees, and promotes use of the institutional repository and other open access publishing tools.
  • Teaches in the library's information literacy program, including course-integrated instruction, individual research consultation, and optional credit-bearing course instruction.
  • Develops instructional materials and e-learning modules to support the online learning environment.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned departments, communicating and collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to meet their information and instructional needs.
  • Provides research consultation services.
  • Contributes to library instructional design efforts by exploring and integrating digital techniques and tools, including online tutorials, multi-media, and other digital projects.
  • Engages in planning, training, and staffing as part of the digital studio and makerspace teams.
  • Collaborates with library and university faculty, staff, and students to promote the digital studio and makerspace and to regularly staff both service points.
  • Serves as the library point person for issues, training, and development for use of SpringShare products, Canvas LMS, and other common digital learning tools.
  • Develops partnerships and collaborations with researchers engaged in digital scholarship.
  • Develops partnerships and collaborations with campus and professional colleagues engaged in instructional design.
  • Accepts and implements other duties as assigned.

McIntyre Library is a team-based organization consisting of 10 faculty, 17 staff, and about 30 student employees. Additionally, we work collaboratively with library staff at the UW-Eau Claire - Barron County branch campus and with colleagues at the other Universities of Wisconsin libraries.
