Social Work and Clinical Counseling Intern

ASPIRE’s Community  Mental Health Clinic is seeking dedicated Social Work and Clinical Counseling Interns to join our team. The interns will provide culturally competent mental health services using a trauma-focused model combined with psychotherapy. The goal is to help decrease levels of depression and anxiety in clients and teach skills to manage stress effectively.

Compensation:

  • The internship will initially be unpaid during the first semester, providing valuable educational experience and training.
  • Starting the second semester, the internship will transition to a partially paid experience, reflecting the increased responsibilities and contributions of the intern.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Interaction:
    • Conduct interviews with clients to gather social history, treatment information, and other relevant data.
    • Provide individual therapy sessions under supervision, focusing on trauma-informed care and psychotherapeutic techniques.
    • Regularly discuss progress towards clients' goals and objectives, including discharge plans.
  • Treatment Planning and Coordination:
    • Research and implement effective modalities and interventions for therapy.
    • Consult with external community providers to coordinate treatment plans and ensure comprehensive care.
    • Refer clients to additional supportive services such as community resources or specialized counseling to supplement treatment.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding agency operations and client information.
    • Keep detailed records, including paperwork and charts, pertaining to client sessions and progress.
    • Ensure all clinical documentation complies with clinic policies and regulatory standards.
  • Professional Development:
    • Attend weekly supervision sessions to discuss caseload, therapeutic techniques, and receive professional guidance.
    • Participate in training and development sessions to enhance therapeutic skills and understanding of clinical practices.


 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in mental health, social services, or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to developing professional skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.
