THE ORGANIZATION 

The Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organization (PANO) is the organization that focuses on the wellness of the Commonwealth’s overall nonprofit sector. PANO is a hub of training, consulting, and resources for all areas of nonprofit governance and operations. PANO also represents the interests of the nonprofit sector to state and federal officials, informs nonprofit professionals about laws and regulations critical to nonprofit management, and provides tools and resources for the nonprofit community to effectively lobby for their causes. In all of our work, we live out our mission to amplify the voice, value, and impact of community benefit work, promoting opportunities for collaboration and information sharing.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position provides resources needed to build strong organizations and communities, through our Standards for Excellence (Standards) program. As a program licensed through the national Standards for Excellence Institute, Standards is a set of policies and practices that guide all areas of nonprofit governance and management. Primary functions of this position include the oversight of the learning, accreditation, and consulting opportunities associated with Standards. This position is also responsible for embedding into the existing Standards program our collective learning about creating deliberate, justice-based systems and supports to achieve and sustain the fair and equitable treatment of those we engage with and are impacted by our work.

                                                                               

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

STANDARDS FOR EXCELLENCE OVERSIGHT

A.      Standards for Excellence Learning Oversight – 35%

Envisions and implements systems and procedures that ease the accessibility of Standards programming, and the implementation of continuous new learning about justice-based practices, while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of core principles.

Updates the Standards educational resource packets as needed – embedding “how to’s” for inclusion of justice-based principles in all policies and practices. This includes working with the National Standards Institute to develop and implement new educational resource packets.

Facilitates and coordinates Standards trainings and other programs developed from Standards content, in collaboration with Licensed Standards Consultants.

Working closely with PANO’s Consultant Collaborative Manager, identifies opportunities for special engagements related to the work of the Standards, including, but not limited to, board governance training for specific boards of directors.

Provide training to as many trainers as needed to facilitate Standards training in all Pennsylvania counties, and identifies opportunities for Standards Licensed consultants to facilitate Standards-based training.

Develops and manages partner relationships to sublicense the Standards program.

Routinely assesses all Standards programming, coordinating the implementation of value-added evaluation results.

In conjunction with other key staff, coordinates integration of Standards into other PANO programs, resources, and marketing materials, as well as into PANO’s internal operating systems.

B.      Voluntary Accreditation and Recognition Program Management - 30%

In collaboration with the national Standards for Excellence Institute, envisions and implements systems and procedures that ease the accessibility of Standards accreditation and recognition – particularly for organizations with limited capacity.

In collaboration with the national Standards for Excellence Institute, envisions and implements systems and procedures for applying continuous new learning about justice-based practices.

Recruits potential Standards applicants through marketing and education – including online and in-person training.

Maintains all levels of the Standards Application process, including the renewal and annual accreditation fee collection schedules.

Conducts all organizational training and staff reviews for new and renewing Standards Basics, Standards Basics Enhanced, and Standards Accreditation applicants.

Coaches organizations interested in completing the accreditation process.

Maintains lines of communication with all applicants before, during, and after the review process to ensure a smooth customer service experience.

Prepares and tracks post-accreditation materials such as award certificates, award letters, license agreements, and public relations kits.

Monitors and maintains license agreements with accredited organizations.

Manages Standards Committee’s oversight of recognition and accreditation processes.

Peer Reviewer Oversight

a. Recruits, trains, and manages Peer Reviewers, updating the application process as needed.

b. Provides regular updates to Reviewers on changes to the Standards Program, including those provided by the national Standards for Excellence Institute. Routinely engages Peer Reviewers as part of PANO’s ongoing learning about justice-based practices, the impact those practices have on organizations, and inviting continuous feedback.

c.  Ensures that Peer Reviewer list is current, asking reviewers to step down if not able to consistently engage in the review process.

C.      Standards for Excellence PA Licensed Consultants – 5%

Processes applications, trains, and manages Standards Consultants.

Coordinates and conducts annual update meeting, serving as a lead presenter

Recruits and retains Standards Licensed Consultants, creating a cohort of Licensed Consultants to facilitate peer exchange, collective learning, and retention.

Maintains and updates licensing agreements with licensed consultants.

Ensures that annual maintenance fee is collected.

D.     Foundation, Business, and Other Funder Education – 5%

In collaboration with other team members, envisions and implements custom board governance training designed for business leaders involved with nonprofit boards.

In collaboration with other PANO team members, envisions and implements custom training and other communication designed to encourage foundation leaders and grant makers to consider the Standards when making giving decisions.

E.       Standards Committee – 5%

Recruits and orients new members.

Coordinates, prepares for, and facilitates quarterly business meetings.

Manages all Standards Committee processes as outlined in the Procedures Manual.

F.       Standards Administration – 5%

Works with the National Standards for Excellence Institute liaison to deliver Standards in Pennsylvania.

Ensures PANO’s license agreement with the Institute is up to date.

Meets with Standards for Excellence Institute staff as needed or required.

G.      Helpdesk (AskPANO) Oversight – 10%

Oversees AskPANO helpdesk response efforts.

Grows number of external partners to help with this effort.

H.     Support for PANO’s Own Accreditation Process – 5%

Provides staff support for PANO’s own accreditation process.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Master’s degree or certification in nonprofit management or related field preferred.

7 years of experience in nonprofit management.

Demonstrated record of internal and external collaboration.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

NEEDED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Subject matter leader in various areas of nonprofit management, and comfortable reaching out to other leaders for support when knowledge may not be know.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, with individuals, in group settings, and with diverse participants.

Strong administrative, organizational, and facilitation skills.

Creativity – the ability to think outside the box.

Ability to manage and motivate other team members.

Ability to grow with PANO in providing a welcoming, inclusive culture that embraces intersecting identities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle or access to reliable transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position may work remotely the majority of the time; office space is also available in Harrisburg, PA. Some travel may be needed for in-person trainings around the state.

COMPENSATION 

Salary Range: $80,000- $85,000 depending on experience.

Benefits:

20 days Paid Time off, 12 paid holidays and a flexible, family-friendly schedule.

Medical health insurance (PPO coverage) with a 10% staff contribution for each covered employee, and access to dental, vision and retirement options. Any dependent covered by PANO’s health insurance plan will be paid for by pre-tax payroll deduction.
