Intern – Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team

Hourly Range:  $15.00 an hour up to 1,000 hours (Part-Time)

Job Summary:  One part-time internship opportunity is available working with the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team.  The primary goal of the ACT Team interns is to provide community-based treatment to individuals that have multiple needs that span across numerous life domains, from basic survival skills in the community (such as access to food or housing) to psychosocial treatment. The focus is on helping individuals become more active in their communities and improve self-sufficiency so that dependence on the ACT team and other professional services gradually decrease. Interns will also be part of monitoring treatment adherence for ACT consumers that are on a civil commitment. For our program, we can offer a range of time for direct face-to-face hours (8-16 hours a week), which is dependent on the total amount of time allotted to the internship throughout the week. Interns are welcome to work between 8-24 total hours per week.

In addition to working with the CARS ACT Team, the interns will have the opportunity to learn about operational aspects of community services offered at CARS. This may involve participating in operations meetings for programs including Targeted Case Management, Community Support Program, Group Homes, AODA Residential, Recovery Support Coordination, and Comprehensive Community Services to gain knowledge of how these programs operate.

Job Duties: 

  • Shadow team members for orientation and training.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to determine appropriate types of community-based care. Assessments typically include a clinical interview and supporting collateral information.
  • Provide direct case management services to help the consumers successfully live in the community. Document accordingly.
  • Provide crisis response services to individuals who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
  • Attend ACT Daily Team Meetings to maintain effective communications among team members.
  • Receive ongoing scheduled supervision from a licensed direct supervisor.
  • Travel of up to 50% of time within the community as part of providing community-based services is required.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current resident of Wisconsin
  • This position is limited to students in need of a 2-3 semester placement.
  • Currently in a master’s degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or in a closely related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable insured vehicle, both maintained throughout employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer knowledge (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Able and willing to travel, within the community, up to 50% of work time, transport consumers, and attend meetings and trainings as necessary.

The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
