Aviation Software & Systems Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Aviation Software & Systems Engineer for our aviation product development team located in our Olathe, KS office. In this role, you will support the successful development, and verification of sophisticated avionics systems by creating and testing embedded and PC software; evaluating relevant sensor and component technology; devising and analyzing algorithmic concepts; and implementing system-level simulations and tests.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain algorithms and software for sensor-system intensive FAA-certified avionics, including attitude heading reference systems (AHRS), strap-down magnetometers, and inertial products
  • Assist in software verification activities to support FAA certification
  • Evaluate viability of existing and emerging sensor technologies for advanced state-of-the-art avionics products
  • Design and implement simulations of complex avionics systems
  • Participate in testing of avionics systems in laboratory and flight environments
  • Participate in product design activities including electrical, software, or mechanical development

Basic Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Masters Degree or PhD in Electrical, Aerospace, Software or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with a cumulative minimum 3.5 GPA or a field relevant to Garmin’s business needs for this role, OR 4 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description AND demonstrated training and knowledge in dynamics, Kalman Filtering, estimation, and/or control theory relevant to Garmin’s business needs for this role
  • A minimum of 2 years experience performing a role that involves structured software programming, preferably C or C++ and active use of system design and analysis tools, preferably Matlab and/or Simulink
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and superior analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality are also a must

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of inertial sensors and navigation relevant to Garmin’s business needs
  • Experience with RTCA DO-178B software development and certification testing procedures
  • Private pilot’s license
