Billing Specialist
· Basic understanding of the Facility Secretary’s role, including but not limited to:
o Entering patient demographics, setting up accounts, and understanding how this data is used for billing purposes
· Develop an understanding of physical, occupational, and speech therapy charges to include modifiers and appropriate use of them
· Become proficient with practice management software to maximize productivity in the billing department, including but not limited to: running reports, data entry, payment posting, and navigating system
· Perform all aspects of medical billing in a physical therapy setting to include:
o Billing out claims from practice management software both electronically and paper
o Ability to recognize who to bill for balance after primary insurance pays, to include secondary / tertiary / patient
o Ensure all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors
o Utilize monthly aging account receivable reports to follow up on unpaid claims over 30 days old
o Timely follow up on insurance claims and denials of claims
· Payment posting in a physical therapy setting to include:
o Accurately post all insurance and patient payments by line item
o Understanding the contract reimbursement rates that exist between ApexNetwork Physical Therapy and the insurance company
o The ability to read and interpret an insurance explanation of benefits
· Respond in a timely and professional manner to requests from insurance companies, patients and providers, including but not limited to:
o Patient records, appeals, general questions on patient’s account related to billing, etc.
· Regularly meet with Billing Manager to discuss reimbursement issues or billing obstacles.
· Perform additional duties as requested by the management team.
