Assistant Director of Supportive Housing

Position Title: Assistant Director of Supportive Housing Programs

Organization: Jewish Family Service of San Diego

Department: Desert Programs

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week) Exempt

Work Setting: Onsite

Reports To: Director of Supportive Housing Programs

Pay Range: $75,000 to $80,000/year

Position Overview:

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Desert team as the Assistant Director of Supportive Housing. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your project management skills and property management experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across Riverside and San Bernardino County. The Assistant Director plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by providing on-going support to the Director of Supportive Housing Service, ensuring consistent and effective leadership and management of program operations.  The individual in this position must also be able to assume the duties of the Director on a temporary basis should the Director be unavailable. This position reports directly to the Director of Supportive Housing and works closely with the administrative staff and the rest of the housing and supportive services team.

 

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Director of Supportive Housing Programs, oversee program operations and provide day-to-day leadership for program staff Provide clarity around roles, motivate staff, and facilitate effective team dynamics
  • Support team members in making consistent and progressive steps toward programmatic consistency and sustainability
  • Effectively communicate work plans and priorities with staff and hold the team accountable
  • Assist in development and management of program budgets
  • Manage assigned administrative and operational processes
  • Ensure the programs meet or exceed requirements of funders including government contracts 
  • Assist with recruitment and management of volunteers
  • Oversee data input and management
  • Assist with donations and food distribution

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have: 

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license, insurance, a reliable personal vehicle, and a willingness to travel off-site
  • Highly organized and able to wear multiple hats in a fast-moving environment
  • Successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, managing staff and systems, and developing an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient organization
  • Thorough understanding of project management
  • Able to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals
  • Ability to be a team player with a flexible and creative approach
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the mission of JFS
  • Ability to support, cultivate, and anticipate the needs of the Supportive Housing programs in relationship to partnerships and strategic alliances
  • Exceptional project management and leadership skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization with an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial “can do” attitude
  • Ability to manage stressful and highly visible situations with a calm and professional manner
  • Ability to represent the agency in professional environments while also able to provide direct services for the outreach component including services to homeless encampments 

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years of professional experience in a general management role, ideally in a rapidly evolving institution
