The office is soliciting applications for Financial Litigation Technician positions within the Civil Division of the Northern District of Indiana. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of legal support functions to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Obtains and analyzes financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay.
  • Initiates contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiates written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts.
  • Conducts skip-tracing activity when necessary to locate debtors, using own discretion in determining those techniques and any follow up needed to locate the debtor.
  • Reviews and reconciles computerized debt collection printouts with office collection records.
  • Makes determinations as to the appropriateness and cost effectiveness of pursuing the obligation either by suit or proceedings subsequent to the entry of judgment to enforce collection.
  • Interprets and enforces judgments in criminal cases, and independently performs all functions to collect amounts imposed as a result of the prosecution of criminal cases.
  • Communicates with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain pertinent procedures, clarify information and work cases to resolution.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. Promotion to the next higher grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
