General Purpose:
The Fitness Instructor is a fitness position with responsibilities in the areas of group exercise and member experience. The role of the Fitness Instructor is to meet the needs of all IU Indianapolis Jaguar Fitness Group Exercise participants. Specifically, the Fitness Instructor is responsible for maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for members and facilitating group exercise classes for members

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead and instruct a variety of cardiovascular, strength, specialty, dance, or strength and conditioning-based class formats to students and faculty/staff at the IU Indianapolis Campus Recreation Center
• Assist with Campus Recreation and Group Fitness Program Special Events
• Continuously work to improve abilities as an instructor to provide exceptional class experiences
• Regularly communicate with members and fitness specialists about interests, needs and concerns with the IU Indianapolis Campus Recreation Group Exercise Program
• Market Group Exercise classes to participants
• Provide and maintain a safe and harassment-free environment that is inclusive of all participants

Preferred Qualifications:
• Valid certifications are required to teach specialty format classes (Zumba, Turbo Kick, Pilates, Yoga, etc.)
• Candidates with Group Exercise certifications are strongly preferred (ACSM, ACE, NASM, etc.)
• Candidates enrolled in Exercise Science/Fitness Management undergraduate/graduate program strongly preferred
• Candidates must display a passion for health and fitness
• Candidates must display an eagerness to learn and work with others

Communicator – Students will learn how to be better communicators by building relationships with peers and fellow students. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting other students in their job search. 

Problem Solver – Students will collaborate with peers and professionals across campus to provide better learning opportunities for students. Students will gain analytical skills by evaluating current procedures and determining effectiveness through the use of data and research. 

Innovator – Students will learn how to use Photoshop to create and design marketing materials. This position will teach students how to make decisions quickly through the use of problem solving and collaborating with peers. 

Community Contributor – Students will gain knowledge about other cultures through interacting with members of the community. This position will provide students with skills to help communicate with others how our choices impact our community.
