Graduate Administrative Assistant – NMU WellBeing Department

TITLE:  Graduate Administrative Assistant – NMU WellBeing Department

COMPENSATION: $17.55 per hour, 8 credits of tuition/semester, plus 3 meal swipes a week; 20 hours/week


 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of WellBeing programs and services for employees and the NMU community under the direction of the WellBeing Promotions Coordinator.


 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide administrative support to the WellBeing Advisory Council.

Assist in the development and coordination of WellBeing programs and services for employees and students via incorporation of the eight dimensions of WellBeing, including programming that is collaborative with WellBeing Peer Educators and Case Management interns.

Help facilitate WellBeing events and programs, such as informational presentations, the Employee WellBeing Booth for the Wildcat WellBeing Fair, WellBeing pop-ups, and peer educator led events.

Recommend new program or service offerings to promote WellBeing for employees and students.

Record and report attendance, participation, or performance data as needed in relation to WellBeing events.

Help maintain the WellBeing website.

Develop and distribute monthly Employee WellBeing Newsletters.

Assist with the development of educational materials, including brochures, bulletin boards, and social media.

Help to conduct or facilitate training sessions or seminars for employees and students.

Help to conduct surveys of faculty and staff to determine interest in, or satisfaction with WellBeing programs, events, or services.

Help develop marketing campaigns to promote healthy lifestyles and participation in WellBeing programs.

Participate in WellBeing Advisory Council meetings.

Collaborate with other departments and representatives to provide collaborative WellBeing programs.

Other related duties as assigned.


 

FUNCTIONAL SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Work closely with members of the WellBeing team, including undergraduate Peer Educators and Case Management Interns.


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a health-related field.

Accepted with good standing into a graduate program at Northern Michigan University.

GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work with common software applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and website maintenance.


 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated skills and experience in wellbeing programming.

Credible nationally recognized health-related certification.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or CPR/AED First Aid Instructor certification.

Interest and desire in actively promoting health and fitness education, campus wellbeing, and pursuing a career in any of these related fields.


 

APPLICATION PROCESS: Application deadline is June 21, 2024.


Prior to applying for the WellBeing Graduate Assistant position, the applicant must:

• Have completed all application processes with the NMU Office of Graduate Studies.

• Be enrolled in a graduate degree or certification program with regular status.

• Maintain satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for both the Graduate Assistantship, and for the tuition scholarship.


 

Upon acceptance to the graduate studies program, the applicant must:

• Submit a cover letter, resume and/or curriculum vitae.

• Submit three professional references.

• Submit any copies of nationally recognized certifications.


 

Once appointed, the graduate assistant must:

• Be enrolled in a minimum of six credits and up to 8 credits relevant to the declared program of study during the fall and winter semesters (16 for the year);

• Maintain an overall graduate grade point average of at least 3.0;

• Meet the qualifications of the particular assignment;

• Satisfactorily perform the duties assigned as evaluated by the supervisor.

 

Please note that at this time, this position is a non-renewable, 2 semester position.
