Student Custodial Team Member - Northern Center

Position Overview

Serves as a student employee team member for the Auxiliary operation. Engage in custodial duties in the Northern Center Building to assist permanent staff in providing basic custodial duties. Responsible for the performance of routine and special custodial duties in the facilities and surrounding grounds as assigned. Other duties as assigned

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High level of punctuality and dependability.
• Use or learn to use various custodial equipment.
• Use or learn to use cleaning and miscellaneous chemicals.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and customers.
• Recognize and communicate building problems and concerns.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions including reading labels and following instructions.
• Work independently or as part of a group. 
• Ability to work safely, being aware of personal safety and the safety of others. 
• Maintain hallways, stairwells, and entries through cleaning of floors; vacuuming, cleaning, and disinfecting fountains; cleaning walls, handrails, ledges, doors, glass, and other surfaces; machine buffing as necessary.
• Maintain offices and community areas by cleaning of floors; straightening furniture; removing trash; cleaning wastebaskets, vacuum, glass, doors, walls, and other surfaces.
• Perform major periodic cleaning projects such as window and wall washing; and floor scrubbing, as directed.
• Collect and dispose of recycling and waste in community areas of the Northern Center.  
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Minimum Requirements

• Must be a registered student attending NMU (minimum credits 6 hours in Fall and Winter Semesters).
• The physical capability to perform all the duties and responsibilities of the position.  

Additional Desirable Qualifications

• Willingness to improve skills
• Experience in custodial/housekeeping or related work
