Position Information

TxDOT's Financial Management Division is seeking interns (upper classmen or graduate students highly preferred) majoring in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science/Technology, Economics or a related major, to work on a year-round basis (full-time in summer/part-time during school-time). This is a paid, year-round internship with 40 hours/week during the summer months, and part-time work the rest of the year. A successful candidate may start immediately as part-time, and then increase to full-time hours during the summer (May thru August), and then return to part-time when classes resume.
The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right to determine the level of position based on the applicant’s work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Performs entry-level administrative and technical duties in our Employee Payments Branch (Payroll and Travel/Expenses). Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and office support work for the department. Our interns are exposed to all things Finance while working in their assigned areas. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Develops spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents.
- Assists the Employee Payments branch with payroll, employee travel auditing, travel payment card reconciliations, etc.
- Gathers basic data and assists with routine analyses
- Assists in maintaining confidential information and records.
- Assists in processing routine documents such as vouchers, journal entries, reimbursement requests, etc.
- Maintains files, records, and logs.
- Performs preliminary research on assignments and gathers pertinent data.
- Performs routine word processing duties and conducts quality checks of documents created.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution. College-level upper classmen or graduate students are highly preferred.
Other Conditions:
- Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include
a trade/vocational school. College-level upper classmen or graduate students highly preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Seeking a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred.
- College-level upper classmen or graduate students highly preferred
- Perform required technical skills using the following systems: Microsoft 365 (Teams, Planner, SharePoint, etc.), similar to Peoplesoft, Quickbooks, Tableau etc.
- Communicate effectively
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
- Protect sensitive and confidential information
- Work successfully from a remote location
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Sitting - prolonged periods of time
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
