Description

Hennepin County's Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking three volunteers to assist and support residents in intensive outpatient treatment group therapy. The licensed counselor will be virtual, while these volunteer positions are in person with the residents.  As a volunteer, you will partner with the counselor to provide support to the residents as they work to create and address life changes.

Location and hours:
This opportunity is located at the Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility at 1145 Shenandoah Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55447. The schedule is three-hour sessions, up to four days a week. Men’s Facility - 8:00am-11:00am, up to four days a week (Monday-Thursday), and Women’s Facility - 9:00am-12:00pm, up to three days a week (Tuesday-Thursday).
 
About the volunteer position type:
This is an advertisement for an unpaid, volunteer position.
 
In this volunteer position, you will:

  • Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Redirect residents when they become distracted and or interrupt other resident’s learning in classroom. 
  • Collect classroom assignments when requested by the virtual teacher. 
  • Provide positive educational experiences for all students by maintaining a respectful classroom environment.
  • Report concerns to your volunteer supervisor.
  • Successfully complete volunteer orientation and training.
  • Be supported by a designated:  Adult Correction Facility Supervisor of Programs.

Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of experience. Final candidates will be required to complete a background check.
