About the Position:

This is an advanced journey level position located in the District 5 Capital Program. Under the general direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) the incumbent is an interdisciplinary team member performing the most complex tasks to facilitate timely delivery of transportation projects. The incumbent shall lead, with minimal supervision, the most complex research, data analysis, and document preparation of natural resources, water resources, climate change, sea level rise, hydroacoustic impacts analysis, species permitting, aquatic resource permitting, wildlife connectivity analysis, fish passage analysis, complex mitigation strategies, GIS analysis, cumulative impacts analysis, as well as analysis of biological impacts for non-transportation projects including Clean California and the Broadband Initiative. The incumbent shall facilitate state and federal regulatory permit coordination by closely tracking and reporting on the status of permits and complex mitigation packages. The incumbent must stay informed of changes related to state and federal environmental laws and policies and may lead or organize trainings on such matters for the Program. The incumbent is responsible for leading coordination efforts to manage the cost, scope and schedule of transportation projects to ensure the Environmental Program meets its project delivery commitments under the Annual Delivery Plan (ADP) and the Contract for Delivery (CFD). Using cost, scope and schedule, the incumbent will also manage A&E contracts. The incumbent shall develop and implement an on-boarding program for new employees and provide mentorship and training. Additionally, the incumbent is also responsible for hiring, training and leading student assistants. The incumbent may act as lead on special projects as needed.
