Story Teller/Writer – Graduate Assistantship or Graduate Student Worker (8989949)

WVU Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources 

This position is an opportunity for a self-directed and motivated student to assist in creating compelling content through writing press releases, web features, student profiles, magazine stories, and social media copy for the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University. The candidate is expected to produce professional work for publication under the guidance of the director of marketing and communications and the College’s communications specialist. This position will develop, create, and disseminate high-quality written content promoting the success of Statler College students, faculty and alumni. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in storytelling strategies and adept at producing effective written content for multimedia platforms. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assist in research, writing and producing news stories for Statler College’s news pages, monthly newsletters, ENews, magazines and multimedia outlets. 

• Meet with faculty, staff, and students to gather content for written projects. 

• Manages “In the News” section of the Media Hub website 

• Creates appropriate written and multimedia content to highlight success stories about the College’s students, faculty, and alumni. 

• Assist in uploading stories to the College’s website content using CleanSlate content management system 

• Updating content for certain website pages. 

• Maintaining news mentions on media hub website. 

• Assist with video and photography production for use on all digital and print platforms. 

• Support marketing needs for recruitment, enrollment, and development. 

Job Qualifications and Requirements: 

• Experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, English, or a related field 

• Strong writing and grammar skills 

• Familiarity with Associated Press Style 

• Knowledge of or willing to learn to work with the web (understands basic HTML coding) and social media platforms 

• Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint 

• Knowledge of or willing to learn Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, and After Effects 

• Motivated, organized, and self-directed 

• Ability to work within a brand 

• Familiarity with ADA compliance 

• Ability to set and meet deadlines 

• Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with a broad and diverse group of students, faculty, alumni, and administrators
