CHILD LIFE SPECIALIST FOR ADAPTIVE CARE TEAM

 

Location: Cincinnati Children’s Main Hospital, Burnet Avenue

Status/Shift: 40 hours per week/Day Shift

The Division of Child Life and Integrative Care at Cincinnati Children’s is committed to the practice of family-centered care by promoting play, education, developmental and psychosocial support. We are an integral part of the health care team who can support the child’s outpatient visit and inpatient stay. We are now recruiting a Child Life Specialist with the Adaptive Care Team. These are Child Life Specialists who concentrate in adaptation of care for individuals with developmental disabilities and other behavioral health challenges to help with understanding, coping, and compliance to improve the care experience and reduce medical trauma. This position is on a team of other Child Life Specialists that assess, create, and enroll appropriate patients in the Adaptive Care Program. The team provides psychosocial and coping support for in-person healthcare appointments. Additionally, will assist with identifying and advocating for the needs of patients and families within the healthcare system; provide support, education, and resources to staff to ensure adaptive care needs of patients are met; and utilize formal and informal assessment skills and organize pre-care planning prior to healthcare encounters for all patients enrolled in the Adaptive Care Program.

 

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Includes weekend rotation (Saturday and Sunday).

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

· Completion of child life internship under the supervision of a certified CLS.

· Child Life Specialists Certification within one year of hire.

Preferred Skills:

· Experience working with children and young adults with developmental disabilities and/or challenging behaviors.

· Ability to remain calm in highly escalated/crisis situations.

· Detail-oriented.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Comfortable speaking up and advocating for patients/families.

· Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.

· Flexibility.

· Willingness to learn/apply feedback.

Pay:

$23.03-$28.06/hour plus $5.00/hour weekend differential on qualified hours.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
