The Dam Safety Engineering Associate I serve as an entry-level staff engineer/engineering associate for implementation of the South Carolina Dams and Reservoirs Safety Act Regulations.  
 
Job duties: 
 
1. Analyze permit applications and other engineering submittals for compliance with regulatory requirements, and hold meetings and/or conduct correspondence with engineering consultants and dam owners to discuss permitting requirements, permit application review comments, and design options/alternatives
 
2. Conduct routine and emergency inspections of dams, generate inspection reports, determine appropriate dam hazard potential classifications, and convey findings to dam owners and other relevant parties
 
3. Availability for internal and external customers to respond to dams-related questions (i.e., technical, regulatory, policy, etc.), to include attending community meetings, and provide requested information and project updates
 
4. Carry the Dam Safety Program 24-hour/7-day emergency phone on assigned rotation and conduct self accordingly during assigned shift

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in engineering. The education must qualify the applicant to become registered as a Level A Professional Engineer in South Carolina and must meet one of the education requirements outlined on the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations website found at: https://llr.sc.gov/eng/PDF_Files/LicensureQualificationInformationSheetExam.pdf. If the applicant is utilizing the ‘substantially equivalent education’ pathway, the approval letter from LLR must be final at time of application. 
 
Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
