Athletics Operations, Weight Room Staff

Position Description:

Under the immediate supervision of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Facilities, this position will be responsible for the supervision of the Strength Center and its patrons. This Student Supervisor will also be responsible for opening, closing, and securing this facility. They are responsible for the appropriate use and cleanliness of all equipment. Additionally, all Athletics Operations Staff are requited to provide a welcoming, inclusive, safe, and enjoyable experience in the Strength Center at all times. This position will be required to work weekends and evenings. 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Facility Operations
  • Ensure that all equipment follows safety regulations, NCAA guidelines and federal, state, and county public health and safety regulations.
  • Work with the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to understand facility policies and procedures to include facility access, emergency action plans, standard operating procedures, and preventative maintenance.
  • Safely open, supervise, and close facility each day/night
  • Work all scheduled shifts, with strict attention to being on time
  • Wear Parkside Athletics gear during all work shifts
  1. Manage Strength Center
  • Responsible for the day to day management of weight room equipment, including cleaning, logging maintenance needs, checking ID cards, and preparing incident/injury reports if needed
  • Enforce policies and procedures that follow university rules and regulations (facility guidelines, facility space priorities, facility access, standard operating procedures, emergency action plans) that strive towards zero tolerance.
  • Ability to effectively receive verbal and written instructions, as well as communicate professionally with patrons
  • Assist patrons with basic knowledge and safety considerations of all cardiovascular, strength, resistance, and free weight equipment
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Ability to assist patrons with basic knowledge and safety considerations of all cardiovascular, strength, resistance, and free weight equipment
  • Ability to safely demonstrate basic lifting technique and be able to safely spot patrons during lifts
  • Ability to demonstrate strong skills in leadership, motivation of staff and good verbal/written communications.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and SAC members.
  • Ability to collaborate with other student employees effectively.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Prefer knowledge of CPR, AED and First Aid.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical labor includes lifting, moving, pushing, etc. a variety of different equipment/weights that could exceed 50 pounds.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Qualify for work study financial aid assistance
  • Currently enrolled at UW-Parkside

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning or weightlifting
  • Prefer kinesiology, sports medicine, personal training, or sports management backgrounds/majors
