Job Summary

 

This is an entry level engineering intern position. This role is responsible for specifying technical and quality requirements for materials and services in support of nuclear plant operations. The primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform general technical and quality assurance activities in support of nuclear procurements as defined in EPRI NP-6629 Guidelines for the Procurement and Receipt of Items for Nuclear Power Plants.
  • Support and perform procurement engineering activities including evaluation, research, and analysis of procurement requirements of materials and services.
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out engineering related tasks and provide technical support of vendor QA program audits.
  • Apply data analytics to performance and quality systems, to include areas of human performance and material quality.
  • Drive department efficiencies through improved utilization of computer systems and use of emerging technologies like AI and machine learning with pattern recognition.
  • Aid as business liaison with IT on database builds, coordinating metrics, and reporting.
  • Design and improve current computer program interfaces by analyzing requirements, constructing workflow charts and diagrams, developing supporting documentation, coding (Python, Java, MS Power Apps), and developing test plans while maintaining business and system protocols.
  • Bring innovation to daily job performance, including:
    • Analysis, evaluation, and improvement of engineering processes and quality inspection activities through the application of AI, 3D scanning, 3D printing, and VR.
    • Identification and supporting implementation of process automations and efficiencies.
    • Enhancement of performance metrics.
  • Complete routine assignments and tasks with limited supervision and direction.

Travel to North Anna and Surry Power Stations as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

  • Student obtaining a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
  • Must be able to effectively manage time to allow for regular work items and emergent priorities
  • Ability to change direction in job scope to react to plant needs quickly
  • Working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs
  • Must have excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to apply, with limited guidance, engineering theories and concepts to effectively address problems

Education Requirements

 

On track to obtain a Bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited university in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related

Graduation date is either May 2026 or December 2026.

Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
