Research Assistant (Immunobiolgy / Islet Cell & Regenerative Biology)

The Research Assistant (Immunobiology/Islet Cell and Regenerative Biology) will assist with experiments in a basic research lab with a focus on blood diseases and autoimmunity. Duties in this new lab will include performing experiments independently and as part of a team, as well as basic lab maintenance and ordering supplies, and genotyping and maintaining a mouse colony. Experiments will include working with mice, cells in culture, as well as basic molecular biology and biochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant must be able to design experiments with appropriate controls and to interpret the derived data.
  • Genotype transgenic and knock-out mice using PCR
  • Perform flow cytometry to analyze and sort live cells
  • Maintenance of mouse colony, including breeding, weighing, and monitoring food intake and response to medication.
  • Lab support (ordering supplies, coordinating glassware washing, repairs, buffer preparation)
  • Accurate record-keeping and data storage
  • Assist PI and lab members in organizing and maintaining plasmids, antibodies, cell lines, etc.

  • Ensure safe laboratory practices and compliance with institutional research guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology or related field
  • Strong background in molecular and cell biology and/or biochemistry.
  • Experience working with animals is preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and a high level of motivation.
