The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Northeast Region, we are looking for a full-time, permanent Wildland Fire and Forest Health Specialist (Wildland Fire Management Supervisor) to join our team at our Loomis, WA location.

This position will be responsible for providing critical wildland fire support during the wildfire season as an Engine Leader. When not engaged in fire suppression activities, the Specialist will be responsible for delivering on key forest health treatment activities including, but not limited to prescribed fire prep, planning, implementation, and monitoring; fuels mitigation and management including piling and burning, thinning and treatment area flagging, and related activities; data management and reporting associated with accomplished activities.

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND two years related field experience.
  • NWCG qualified as:
    • Single Resource Boss (any)
    • Incident Commander Type 5
  • Must annually pass the arduous level work capacity test.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Proven ability in computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and GPS. Proven ability in the application: Survey 1-2-3.
  • Experience with:
    • GIS
    • Fire Effects and Fuel Load Monitoring
    • Smoke Management
    • Regulatory Education
    • Fire Regulatory and Enforcement
    • Fire Prevention Programs
    • Fire Suppression
    • Silvicultural techniques to improve forest health
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills and ability to work with the public, sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to act promptly and use good judgment in emergencies.
