Laboratory Intern

The Laboratory Intern will join the Essex lab team to support seasonal projects and routine work by assisting with sample preparation, data recording, cleaning and organization of glassware and consumables, measurements of physical constants, inventory updates, and other tasks as time/abilities allow. 

We’ll work to provide the Laboratory Intern with an overview of the Fragrance and Flavor industry, a general understanding of Quality Control concepts and purpose, training and feedback on general lab skills, and training/hands-on experience with GC-MS/FID instruments.

Core tasks:
·      Sample preparation with associated data recording
·      Sample storage/organization
·      Cleaning/organizing glassware, sample prep materials, etc.
·      Assist with gas management.
·      Assist with instrument maintenance after training: inlet maintenance, wash vials, clean syringes.
·      Measurement of physical constants and data recording
·      Other tasks as needed

Position requirements:
·      One-year general chemistry with lab
·      One-year general biology with lab
·      Able to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch, crawl, and/or climb stairs to handle supplies, as well as sit for prolonged periods of time using a computer
·      Ability to lift 50lbs
·      Vision ability to include close reading on computer screen, as well as focus across warehouse
·      Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., masks, safety glasses, gloves)
·      Ability to work independently, as well as collaboration with others to work as a team
·      Willingness to collaborate, cooperate, and compromise a must; always showing respect for others

Position preferred experience:
·      One-year organic chemistry with lab
·      Experience with analytical instrumentation, GC-MS preferred
