Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a Psychiatric Registered Nurse with a desire to make a difference in delivering care in an empathetic and compassionate way!

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing treatment and care to adults and children receiving psychiatric services from the Medical Services Department in an outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the review and audit of physician orders and prescriptions; run Prescription Monitoring Reports on the behalf of MD/NP per their request; completion of prior authorizations on their behalf; monitoring/assessment of vital signs; patient/family education regarding healthier lifestyle choices as well as administering intra-muscular and subcutaneous medication injections. In addition, candidate must be able to educate consumers and/or their families on medication effects, side effects, dosages, and storage; takes, monitors, and records vital signs per protocol; observes, records and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition; triage phone calls and requests from Case Manager, Therapists, consumers, families etc. for earlier appointments with psychiatrists; administers Intramuscular and Subcutaneous Long-Acting Antipsychotic injections; orient consumer and families to Medical Services Program processes during new patient psychiatric evaluations.; inventories, orders, and stocks medical supplies needed for injections; educates staff, families, and patients on routine care, abnormal lab results, medication side effects; co-morbid conditions and abnormal vital signs; completes medication prior authorizations and appeals; updates consumers’ account for insurance and related changes. Perform other work as required.

Successful candidate will possess a diploma from an approved nursing program or an associate’s degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred; two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse; two years of experience working with individuals with mental illness preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing; of medical terminology, and psychiatric medications. Ability to evaluate health care and medical service needs; to prepare and maintain organized, detailed, and accurate medical records and charts; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a multidisciplinary team, as well as internal and external customers. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. 

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
