Commodity Manager

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. is seeking an experienced Commodity Manager to join our Procurement team at our DTTP - Waller, TX location. In this role, you will be responsible for commodities support of one of our product lines.  You will identify and engage with engineering, operations, and quality to understand commodity requirements and ensure supply base is aligned. Responsible for development and execution of commodity strategy. Will conduct or support negotiations and supplier selection. Responsible for delivering commodity driven cost down through price negotiations, value analysis (VA/VE) or supplier continuous improvement. Support Supplier Relationship Management and will facilitate and lead supplier commodity reviews for strategic suppliers.  Responsible for continuity of supply including actively monitoring and mitigating supplier risk.  To be successful in this role, you will have a supply chain background, comfortable working in a fast moving/fast paced environment, outgoing and will have strong analytical skills. 

May include:

  • Responsible for development and execution of commodity strategies for assigned commodities.
  • Accountability to provide analytical support in all commercial negotiations and supplier selections within assigned commodities.
  • Provide direction and guidance amongst a team of buyers; foster an environment that strives for excellence and is results-oriented. Ensure they understand and follow the objectives and processes. Act as a mentor and responsible for performance management of direct reports.
  • Maintain ownership of supplier relationships, including performance monitoring, and will manage execution of SRM reviews.
  • Support global synergy efforts for the direct materials organization for assigned commodities.
  • Build and support a pipeline of cost savings projects for sustainable year over year productivity, or cost down.
  • Will track and drive dual sourcing initiatives for supplier risk mitigation efforts.
  • Drive and implement continuous process improvement activities
  • Responsible for execution and reporting of supplier contracting initiatives.
  • Support director as required on developing commodity strategy documents, and 3 to 5-year growth playbook plans.
  • Responsible for weekly executive reporting on all financial cost down projects for assigned commodities.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Mid-level commodity management experience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience interacting with cross functional team including engineering, quality, materials, logistics, sales & marketing
  • Proven leadership skills – employee development, goal setting, performance development, employee engagement
  • Demonstrated negotiation experience – relationship management skills – vendor management
  • Effective project management skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy and strong analytical and quantitative abilities
  • Develops and balances both short and long term strategy
  • Effective two-way communication and executive presentation skills including professional business acumen
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a commodity management, or strategic sourcing role
  • Demonstrated progression of spend management responsibility
  • 3+ years in a leadership role

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Business, Economics, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering or related field
