Weekend Building Manager - Summer 2024 - Work Study or Regular Pay

WEEKEND BUILDING MANAGER

The UW-W College of Arts and Communication seeks students to serve as Weekend Building Managers for the Center of the Arts.

The Managers will be responsible for opening and closing the building on Saturdays and Sundays from the beginning of classes through final examinations. Building Managers may be required to work during some holidays or scheduled breaks.  Hours may vary for special events.

  • One Manager will open the building at 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays and remain on duty until 4:30 p.m. This same Manager will re-open the building at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays and remain on duty until 4:30 p.m.  .
  • Another Manager will begin his/her shift at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and at 5:00 p.m. on Sundays and will secure and lock the building before 11 p.m. on both days.

Responsibilities while on duty will include unlocking/locking exterior doors of the Center of the Arts, and unlocking/locking the Kachel Center for anyone who has booked the space.  The Managers will generally remain available in the atrium to oversee the building, address visitor's questions, respond to emergencies, etc.

  • Managers will tour the building on a regular basis to assure that only authorized persons are using lab spaces, that only designated doors and labs are open, and that inappropriate activities are not occurring in the building.
  • Managers will be expected to alert or direct building users during a weather or building emergency and be familiar with the use of the building all channel emergency radio, cell phone, and weather radio.
  • Managers will be expected to notify Campus Police or Emergency Services in the case of an emergency or security concern, or Facilities, Planning and Management for facilities or maintenance assistance, or the Building Supervisor, Secondary, or Tertiary for questions or concerns.
  • Managers are required to attend a safety and procedure orientation meeting prior to beginning their assignment as well as an annual review session.
  • Managers will receive and wear a Center of the Arts uniform/shirt while on duty to identify themselves.
  • Managers will report to the Associate Dean’s office of the College to receive information concerning events officially scheduled for the building. In the case of such events, Managers may be called upon to assist the building users to open and close a specific space.

 

All Managers for each weekend will pick up access keys on Friday before 1 p.m. before their scheduled shift at the Dean's Office.  These keys must be returned to the building manager bin on Sunday following their shifts. Manager shift keys must not leave the building.

Building Managers may be called upon periodically to address other building oversight items appropriate to the position.

Students with work-study support are encouraged to apply.  Minimum starting wage is $10.50.  A background check is required for this position.
