Rates and Contracts Intern

We are a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative, providing electricity to 27 member-owner distribution cooperatives through Minnesota.  Together, our systems power more than two-thirds of our great state.  

General Summary: 
Great River Energy is seeking a Member Resources Rates and Contracts Intern at our headquarters in Maple Grove, MN to support the Power Supply department to analyze and support programs related to demand response, distributed energy resources, electrification, and economic development.

Job Responsibilities:
Analyze and evaluate the annual rates for GRE’s Demand Side Management (DSM) programs, leveraging and updating existing analytical models. 
• Understand both the power supply and delivery services strategy and rate calculations for DSM programs
• Work with internal partners to develop a final rate recommendation to be presented to stakeholders.

Develop analytical tool(s) to evaluate the performance of a current pilot program
• Gather data and evaluate system impacts of the pilot program rate
• Provide deep understanding of current trends and future opportunities

Support the rates and contracts group with other initiatives as needed relating to
• Economic development opportunities in member-owner cooperative service territories
• Annual program updates and new program development
• Cost of service and general rate analysis

Requirements:
• Must be enrolled in college and working towards a degree in physics, engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, bio systems or computer science) economics, or public policy.
• High level of computer aptitude, proficient with Microsoft Excel as well as other Microsoft Office Products. 
• Technical writing and documentation.
• Interest in energy management, distributed energy resources, and rate design.
• Comfortable with both independent work and collaboration with internal experts

Duration of the internship will be full-time during the summer of 2024 in a hybrid work environment (expectation of approximately 50% of time spent in the office in Maple Grove, MN).
